Small Group Tour Itinerary

2018

Day 1: Beijing
On arrival in Beijing, transfer to your hotel, and meet your fellow travelers and Tour Leader (or local guide).

Hotel: Novotel Beijing Xinqiao (or similar)

Day 2: Great Wall of China
Drive a few hours out of Beijing to one of the less-frequently visited sections of the Great Wall at Jinshanling. Hike along some of the most spectacular sections of this site, passing both restored and unrestored sections.

Day 3: Trans-Mongolian Railway
Board the train for your overnight journey to Ulaan Baatar, a trip that takes approximately 30 hours and a wonderful way to see the changing landscape between the capitals of China and Mongolia. The border crossing from China into Mongolia can take up to four hours, due to the changing of the train’s bogies and the border formalities.

Day 4: Ulaan Baatar
Enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Mongolian grasslands and arrive in Ulaan Baatar in the early afternoon. Visit the National Museum of Mongolian History which houses a rich variety of exhibitions.

Day 5: Ulaan Baatar to Lake Khuvsgul
Fly to Moron and drive to stunning Lake Khuvsgul, located in the northwest of Mongolia near the border with Russia, at the foot of the Sayan Mountains. Settle in to your ger camp and relax in the tranquil surroundings of this breathtaking place.

Day 6: Lake Khuvsgul
Lake Khuvsgul is undoubtedly one of Mongolia’s great scenic highlights and you have a free day at your leisure. Take a dip in the lake’s crystal waters, enjoy a boat ride or hike in the surrounding hills.

Day 7: Lake Khuvsgul to Zuun Nuur
Drive southwards to Zuun Nuur and spend the night by the shores of this picturesque lake.

Day 8: Zuun Nuur
Spend a leisurely day exploring the picturesque lake at your leisure.

Day 9: Zuun Nuur to Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur
Drive to Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, a stunning lake surrounded by mountains, volcanic rock and grassy slopes. As you enter Khorgo-Terkiin Tsagaan, pass an extinct volcano crater that has a fascinating mythological story of its creation.

Day 10: Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur
Enjoy a free day at Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, where you can swim, fish or simply relax. Within the Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park, you can embark on a hike to the top of an extinct volcano crater or enjoy a relaxing boat ride on the lake.

Day 11: Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur to Terkhiin Hot Springs
Drive into the Khangai mountain range to Tsenkheriin Hot Springs and in the afternoon, relax in the therapeutic waters of the springs.

Camp: Shiveet Mankhan Ger Camp (or similar)

Day 12: Terkhiin Hot Springs to Naadam Festival
Drive to the beautiful town of Tsetserleg. Unlike most visitors, join the excitement of the Naadam Festival, away from the crowds at Ulaan Baatar. This allows you to get much closer to the action and provides a more intimate experience with the local people. Experience the spectacular Opening Ceremony of the festival and competitions of horse racing, archery, and wrestling.

Day 13: Naadam Festival to Karakorum
Spend the morning at the Naadam Festival before driving to Karakorum. Visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, constructed from the stones of the ruined capital.

Hotel: Munkh Tenger Ger Camp (or similar)

Day 14: Karakorum to Khustai National Park
Travel to the sand dunes of Mongol Els, which stretch from Central Mongolia to the Gobi Desert. Take a ride on rare two-humped Bactrian camels. Continue to Khustai National Park, home of Mongolia's wild horses or takhi.

Hotel: Kustai Ger Camp (or similar)

Day 15: Kustai National Park to Ulaan Baatar
Visit a local project for the protection and reintroduction of horses into the wild, which were once extinct. Drive to Ulaan Baatar and visit Gandan Monastery, the center of Buddhism in Mongolia to see the impressive Golden Buddha Statue of Migjid Janraisig. Enjoy a farewell dinner with your fellow travelers.

Day 16: Ulaan Baatar
Transfer to the airport for your onward journey.
