Small Group Tour Itinerary

DAYS 1-2: BANGKOK, THAILAND
On arrival in Bangkok, transfer to your hotel then meet your tour leader and group for welcome drinks. Walk amongst the vivacious streets of bustling Bangkok and take an express boat and train to discover the sparkling Grand Palace. Continue to Wat Pho, a temple which houses one of the world’s largest Buddha images. Here, enjoy a Thai massage at a massage school. Walk to the Bangkok National Museum and learn about Thai history, culture and art. In the afternoon, spend some free time exploring.

DAYS 3-4: RIVER KWAI & KANCHANABURI
Leave Bangkok's bustle behind and head to the beautiful River Kwai region. Visit an elephant sanctuary that cares for rehabilitated and aging elephants in a peaceful environment. Learn about these magnificent animals while you prepare their food, feed and bathe them. Reflect on the rich and turbulent history of the region, as you head to Hellfire Pass.

DAYS 5-7: CHIANG MAI
Drive to Thailand’s historic capital, Ayuthaya to explore its fascinating temples. Return to Bangkok and fly to Chiang Mai. Enjoy a hands on cookery class where you can taste your creations for lunch. Drive up to Doi Suthep, and admire the stunning views from its temple. Spend a free day getting to know Thailand's cultural capital, perhaps strolling the Old Town and exploring markets and temples, then enjoy a group dinner.

DAYS 8-10: THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE, LANJIA LODGE (THAILAND) & PAKBENG, (LAOS)
Travel to Chiang Rai in the far north of Thailand. Explore the mysterious Golden Triangle region on the way to an award-winning hilltop lodge which overlooks Laos and the mighty Mekong. Take part in a batik class, run by your Hmong hosts, and enjoy the spectacular views. Journey to the border the next morning and take a slow boat down the tranquil Mekong, floating past traditional villages and rural scenery. Stay the night in the former trading post of Pakbeng, on the edge of the rugged Mekong.

DAYS 11-13: LUANG PRABANG
Take an elephant trek, then cruise to the Pak Ou Caves and its hundreds of Buddha statues. Arrive in Luang Prabang and visit the Royal Palace and the graceful Wat Mai and Xieng Thong temples. Play a leisurely game of petanque, and enjoy sunset mocktails in riverside temple grounds. Savor a local noodle breakfast,, witness monks collecting alms at dawn, and spend an evening taking part in bamboo weaving and in an interactive cooking class in a beautiful rural setting. Visit scenic Kuang Si Falls, and have ample free time to explore Luang Prabang's alleyways, alluring architecture, boutiques and cafes.

DAYS 14-15: VIENTIANE
Fly to Vientiane. Visit the grand Patuxai monument, and the COPE Center to learn about the impact of Indochina’s ‘Secret War’. Sample a Lao coffee, explore gilded That Luang and Wat Sisaket, and have some free time. In the evening, attend a baci ceremony and hear a traditional music performance over a delicious ‘jaew’ dinner in a local home.

DAYS 16-17: PAKSE & BOLAVEN PLATEAU
Fly to Pakse in the south of Laos, gateway to the 4000 Bolaven Plateau, the 4000 Islands, and mysterious Wat Phou temple. Pretend to be a school teacher for a local English language school, see the beautiful Tad Fane Waterfalls and explore the Bolaven Plateau, where you will visit a fairtrade coffee plantation and get the chance to sample Robusta and Arabica brews. Mid-afternoon, check in to your atmospheric lodge next to the picturesque Tad Lo waterfalls.

DAYS 18-19: DONE KHONE ISLAND
Head to the Kiet Ngong village visit a former warrior training ground, perched atop a hill offering spectacular views of the Xe Pian National Protected Area. Travel by road to the area known as the 4,000 Islands, then enjoy a boat journey to Done Khone Island, the site of the first French settlement in Laos. Glide in to the Mekong on a small boat, in search of the elusive Irrawaddy river dolphin. Travel to the impressive Li Phi Falls and see the remains of the French railway, before enjoying free time in the afternoon. You have the option to cycle on the island amongst crumbling French architecture and swaying coconut palms.

DAYS 20-22: DONE DAENG ISLAND
Marvel at the largest falls in Southeast Asia, Khone Phapheng Falls, before traveling to Champasak town to visit the mysterious Wat Phou Khmer temple. Situated on the side of a large hill, these ancient ruins pre-date Angkor Wat. Continue on to the Champasak jetty for a boat transfer to the gorgeous La Folie Lodge. Cycle to the northern tip of the island, stopping at some villages on the way. Savor a farewell dinner at the lodge, and on your last day, enjoy free time before your departure transfer.
