Small Group Tour Itinerary

DAYS 1-3: THE GOLDEN TRIANGLE & LANJIA LODGE (THAILAND) & PAKBENG, (LAOS)
On arrival in Chiang Rai in the Golden Triangle, transfer to your hotel. Meet your group of like-minded travelers and tour leader for welcome drinks and a briefing. Explore the Golden Triangle region on the way to an award-winning hilltop lodge overlooking Laos and the mighty Mekong. Take part in a batik class, run by your Hmong hosts before journeying to the border next morning fora slow boat down the tranquil Mekong. Float past traditional villages and rural scenery. Stay the night in the former trading post of Pakbeng, on the edge of the rugged Mekong.

DAYS 4-6: LUANG PRABANG
Enjoy bathing and feeding elephants in a jungle setting, then cruise onwards to the Pak Ou Caves and its hundreds of Buddha statues. Glide in to beautiful Luang Prabang, a treasure-chest of architecture and culture, and your base for three nights. Explore highlight sites on foot, including the exquisite Royal Palace and the graceful Wat Mai and Xieng Thong temples. Take part in a leisurely game of petanque, and indulge in sunset mocktails in riverside temple grounds. Savor a delicious local noodle breakfast with a brew of French coffee, be calmed by the serene sight of monks collecting alms at dawn, and spend an evening taking part in bamboo weaving and in an interactive cooking class in a beautiful rural setting. Visit scenic Kuang Si Falls, and have ample free time to explore Luang Prabang's alleyways, alluring architecture, boutiques and cafes.

DAYS 7-8: VIENTIANE
Fly to Vientiane. Visit the grand Patuxai monument for panoramic views, and the COPE Center to learn about the impact of Indochina’s ‘Secret War’. Sample a Lao coffee, explore gilded That Luang and antique Wat Sisaket temples, and have some free time. In the evening, be blessed at a baci ceremony and hear a traditional music performance over a delicious ‘jaew’ dinner in a local house. Enjoy free time before your departure transfer.

DAYS 9-11: YANGON & INLE LAKE, MYANMAR
Fly to Yangon. Take a short walk to see the city’s British-colonial architecture and the Indian Quarter, as well as the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda. Fly to Heho and transfer to Inle Lake. Visit a morning market where hilltribe people gather. Learn about local crafts at a weaving village and silversmith, and see how typical Burmese cigars are made by hand. Visit Inle Heritage before enjoying lunch. Explore Pa-oh village of In Dein on foot and see the ruined ancient stupas of Alaung Sitthou.

DAYS 12-14: BAGAN
Transfer to Heho for a morning flight to Bagan. The city is famous for plains filled with thousands of beautiful temples. A half-day tour includes Shwezigon Pagoda and the famous Ananda Temple, before a sunset view over Bagan from atop a beautiful terraced pagoda. Visit Minnathu Village for an insight into local life, and see the imposing 12th century Dhammayazika Paya. Discover local handicrafts at a workshop, and enjoy a sunset boat ride before a farewell dinner. On your last day, enjoy free time until your departure transfer.
