2018

DAY 1: YANGON (RANGOON)
On arrival in Yangon, transfer to your hotel. Meet your fellow travelers and Tour Leader (or local guide) for a drink and a welcome briefing.

DAY 2: SHWEDAGON PAGODA
On a walking tour of Yangon, see examples of the city’s best colonial architecture and wander fascinating backstreets of the downtown area which thrive with local activity. End the day at the magnificent Shwedagon Pagoda.

DAY 3: YANGON TO BAGAN
Take an early morning flight to Bagan and explore the city’s most important monuments such as Shwezigon Pagoda and famous Ananda Temple. Built in 1105AD, Ananda Temple contains two unique Buddha images whose expressions seem to change depending on the distance and angle from which the statues are viewed.

DAY 4: BAGAN
Sample a delicious noodle breakfast at a local teahouse before venturing to Minnathu village to meet friendly locals and a blacksmith who still makes everything by hand. Continue to 12th century Dhammayazika Paya temple before enjoying a stunning sunset view of Bagan’s monuments.

DAY 5: IRRAWADDY CRUISE
Board your charming boutique cruise ship for a two night cruise on the Irrawaddy River. Stop at Pakokku to explore the town by traditional trishaw.

DAY 6: IRRAWADDY CRUISE
Arrive at the picturesque village of Yandabo known for its pottery. Learn about the methods used to create the pottery which is the local community’s main source of income.

DAY 7: MANDALAY
Disembark in Mandalay, and visit the lively Jade Market buzzing with traders and workers cutting and polishing jade. Wander through the backstreets behind the market for an insight into Myanmar’s snack food industry. Visit the Royal Palace, Golden Palace Monastery, and Kuthodaw Pagoda, home to ‘The World’s Largest Book’.

DAY 8: U BEIN BRIDGE
At Sagaing, visit a local nunnery to contribute food at the daily alms offering before joining the nuns for a delicious home-cooked lunch. Enjoy an excursion to U Bein Bridge – a 200-year-old teak bridge that spans over 1.2 kilometers.

DAY 9: MANDALAY TO KALAW
Fly to Heho then take a scenic drive to Pindaya to visit the town’s famous multi-chambered caves filled with hundreds of Buddha statues. Continue overland to Kalaw.

DAY 10: ELEPHANT SANCTUARY
Enjoy a day at an elephant sanctuary in the Shan Hills. Learn about these magnificent creatures and the camp’s work to save and protect them. Watch the ‘oozies’ washing and feeding their elephants in a nearby river and waterfall.

DAY 11: KALAW TO INLE LAKE
Visit Kalaw’s colorful morning market where local hilltribes gather to buy and sell fresh produce. Travel by local train through the picturesque landscape of the Shan Hills to Shwe Nyaung.

DAY 12: INLE LAKE
Explore Inle Lake and learn about its inhabitants. Observe the intriguing fishing technique used by Inthar fishermen, something that must be seen to be believed. Visit the lush ‘floating gardens’ and be invited to a local family’s home to gain insights into life on the lake. Visit Inle Heritage, an organization that preserves the cultural and natural diversity of the lake. Cruise to In Dein village and explore the ancient stupas of Nyaung Ohak and Shwe Inn Thein Paya.

DAY 13: INLE LAKE
Explore the region’s morning market. Visit Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary, which contains five sacred Buddha images whose shapes have been distorted by the enormous amount of gold leaf applied to them by devotees. Stop at the weaving village of Inpawkhone, a Silversmiths’ village, and a community that specializes in the production of hand-made ‘cheroot’ (typical Burmese cigars).

DAY 14: INLE LAKE TO YANGON
Fly from Heho back to Yangon and enjoy the afternoon at leisure exploring the city. Celebrate a memorable visit to Myanmar with a farewell group dinner.
